Crossbow Magazine is devoted to people who share a passion for crossbow hunting pursuits.  We are delighted to publish articles from hunters and enthusiasts with a story to tell.  Our focus is primarily on hunting the whitetail deer, but manuscripts covering all big game species will be considered for publication.  Coverage of crossbows, optics and equipment essential to crossbow hunting will be covered to a limited extent.

While most of our departments are written by regular contributors, most of our feature articles come from real world hunters.  The majority of our coverage consists of exciting, well-written hunting adventure stories.  Features should be no more than 2,000 words in length.

The best way to have your manuscript printed in Crossbow Magazine is to first query the editor.  Queries should clearly explain what you’d like to write about, and show the editor why the subject is relevant.  Also tell us what kind of photo support you will provide.  Please allow us time to review your article or query; we will get back to you with an answer whether we decide to use the piece or not.

All manuscripts must be submitted via email.  Microsoft Word files are preferred.

Photos must be submitted at the same time as the text.  Please do not embed photographic materials in the text of articles sent electronically.

To reduce the danger of duplication, CROSSBOW MAGAZINE will not accept submissions simultaneously made to other publications or work that has already been published—in any format.

All article submissions must be submitted three months prior to magazine release dates of January, April, July, August, and October of each calendar year.  The Editor reserves the right as to which issue your article will appear.

In all cases, CROSSBOW MAGAZINE works with digital files.  We do not accept original transparencies or negatives.  If you would like to submit film/negatives, you must scan them into a digital format before you submit them.  Realize that while we try to protect images sent to us on speculation, CROSSBOW MAGAZINE accepts no responsibility for lost or damaged photographic materials.  Since we do not accept original materials, CROSSBOW MAGAZINE will not accept financial responsibility for lost or damaged original photographic materials, transparencies or negatives.

Images being considered for the cover of CROSSBOW MAGAZINE must be vertical in orientation and meet the following criteria:

Images must be at least 10 megapixels and in full color.  The minimum size for cover consideration is 2592 x 3872 pixels which can be used to print a quality 8.5" x 12" cover image.  For more information regarding pixels and print sizes, please refer to the following article:

Send full-sized images. Do not upsize or downsize images.

Do not "frame" your work.  We do not accept framed images for consideration.

We publish color images.  Please do not send images in black and white, sepia, etc.

Do not embed your own watermark, website name, or copyright notice in your images.

Do not send images with date stamps.

Make sure your images have a clear topic and focus.  Images should be correctly exposed and in-focus.

All submissions are reviewed “on speculation.”  All rights, with respect to material submitted for publication in Crossbow Magazine, will be treated as unconditionally assigned for publication purposes and as such are subject to the Editor's unrestricted right to edit and to comment editorially.

CROSSBOW MAGAZINE loves hearing from our readers and we enjoy sharing in your successes.  We value your article ideas and photographic offerings.  Due to the large number of submissions we receive, we may not be able to respond to queries about specific rejections.
